Katie Taves, LPC, PMH-C

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C) with over 15 years of clinical experience.

Early in my career, I worked primarily with young children and their caregivers, and I’ll always hold deep appreciation for the healing that can happen in the therapy playroom. But after becoming a parent myself, I realized one of the most powerful ways to support children is to ensure their parents feel supported and resourced at all stages. That’s why I’m passionate about walking alongside you through your fertility, pregnancy, and parenting journey - to ensure YOU get what you need.

My approach is compassionate, nonjudgemental, flexible, and collaborative. I bring my training and expertise, but you bring the expertise on your life, experiences, and values. Together, we’ll find an approach that works for you.

Training and Clinical Approach

I have extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and I draw heavily from these approaches in my work with clients. What this means is that we’ll work on accepting difficult emotions rather than fighting them, clarifying what truly matters to you, and taking meaningful action aligned with your values. We’ll also explore the emotional experiences underlying your struggles and pay attention to how these feelings show up in your body. Trauma, stress, and grief don’t just live in our minds. By bringing awareness to physical sensations and releasing what’s stored there, we can create deeper, lasting healing.

For clients navigating fertility challenges and family building, I bring specialized training from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in assisted reproductive technology (ART) and contemporary family building. I understand the unique emotional landscape of infertility, the grief that comes with treatment cycles, and the complexities couples face as they navigate this journey together.

My perinatal training includes advanced trainings from Postpartum Support International (PSI). My experience extends beyond pregnancy and postpartum to include the often-invisible experiences of grief and loss. Whether you’re struggling with the emotional toll of infertility, or managing the complicated feelings that can arise during pregnancy after loss, I provide a compassionate place to hold all of it.

My approach to parent coaching is rooted in my extensive play therapy training, with a focus on attachment and strengthening the parent-child relationship. I believe that understanding how children communicate through play - and helping parents tune into those cues- transforms not just behavior, but the entire family dynamic.
